G�nsehaut! Daran muss man sich gew�hnen, wenn Doomswords neues Album im CD-Player rotiert. Der emotionale und kraftvolle, traditionelle Metal dieser italienischen Krieger hat bisher noch nie entt�uscht. Begonnen hat alles mit einem selbst betitelten Deb�t, welches im Underground eine Menge Staub aufwirbelte. Doomsword zeigten sich stark inspiriert von fr�hem US-Stahl, legten aber gleichzeitig den Grundstein f�r den eigenst�ndigen Pfad den sie in Zukunft gehen w�rden. Der Nachfolger "Resound The Horn" stellte den Aufbruch in eine neue �ra f�r die Band dar. Gitarrist und Songwriter Deathmaster �bernahm den Gesang und die Band begann mehr melancholische Doom-Elemente, inspiriert von Bathory und Candlemass in ihren Sound zu integrieren. Mit diesem Album beginnt meine pers�nliche Doomsword-Geschichte - ein magischer Moment. Ihr m�sst wissen, dass ich zu der Zeit als "Resound The Horn" erschien, haupts�chlich Black- und Death Metal h�rte. Ich sah die Scheibe zuf�llig beim CD-Dealer. Das tolle Coverartwork und die Songtitel zogen mich irgendwie in den Bann und ich musste unbedingt rein h�ren. Ich wei� nicht, was an dem Tag passierte. Ich habe das Album zwar nicht gleich gekauft, bekam die gewaltigen, melancholisch-doomigen Songs und den tragischen Gesang jedoch nicht mehr aus meinem Kopf. Ich bin ein paar mal zur�ck zu dem Laden und musste immer wieder rein h�ren, als ob das Album f�r mich geschaffen war. Gekauft habe ich es dann nat�rlich auch, hab es fast wie ein Heiligtum nach Hause getragen und wochenlang nichts anderes mehr geh�rt. Doomsword treffen bei mir direkt ins Herz und daher werde ich wohl auch nie v�llig objektiv sein k�nnen, wenn ich ein neues Album der Jungs rezensiere. Keine andere Musik lie� mich mehr Tr�nen heulen, Fists raisen, headbangen und zu fernen Orten und Zeiten reisen. "My Name Will Live On" ist das Album worauf viele Fans lange gewartet haben. Deathmaster ist nach Irland umgezogen und hat sich erstmal ausgiebig mit der Historie befasst, bis es ans Schreiben neuer Texte ging. Frisches Blut kam in die Band, Sacred Heart ersetzt Guardian Angel II und Geilt schwingt die Bass-Axt. Ich habe eigentlich nie verstanden, warum viele Reviewer die Gr��e des Albums "Let Battle Commence" nicht erkannt hatten. F�r mich ist es das perfekte Epic Metal Album mit einem gro�artigen Textkonzept und unerreichter tragischer Atmosph�re, welches auch locker Ver�ffentlichungen von Bathory in die Tasche steckt. Daher war mir auch klar, dass sie dieses Jahrhundertalbum nicht �bertreffen k�nnen. Doomsword waren aber weise und taten das einzig richtige. Die neue CD orientiert sich wieder am Deb�t-Album und Doomsword haben ihren Sound um neue Elemente erweitert. Ihre musikalischen F�higkeiten haben die Jungs auch noch einmal verbessern k�nnen. Ich kann nur sagen, auf "My Name Will Live On" ist kein einziger schwacher Song. Es gibt die typischen Doomsword-Trademarks wie in "Death Of Ferdia", "Gergovia" oder "Sword Of Light", dann gibt es wieder massive epische Titel wie "Luni", "Once Glorious" oder "Thundercult" und diesmal auch richtige arschtretende Power Metal H�mmer wie "Steel Of My Axe" und "Days Of High Adventure". Die St�rke des Albums liegt in seiner Vielseitigkeit und in Doomswords F�higkeit einen geilen Spannungsbogen aufzubauen. Immer wieder findet man solche Stellen, in denen der Gesang immer emotionaler und kraftvoller wird, bis er in ein Gitarrensolo und donnernde Drums �bergeht, was mir immer einen Schauer �ber den R�cken laufen l�sst. Wenn man einen Draht zu Epic Metal hat, kann man eigentlich nicht begeisterter sein, als von einem Song wie z.B "Thundercult". Erst die "Thundercult"-Screams, die dann in einen Chor mit geiler Gitarrenmelodie �bergehen, dann das Solo und die Drums und am Ende noch Ger�usche von Blitz und Donner, besser geht es eigentlich nicht. Manowar haben versucht so eine monumentale Atmosph�re mit einem Haufen Keyboards zu erzeugen. Doomsword schaffen zehn mal soviel Atmosph�re nur mit traditionellen Metal-Instrumenten. "Gergovia" erz�hlt die Geschichte von Vercingetorix, der sich der r�mischen Besatzung und C�sars Truppen entgegenstelle und ihnen einige der schwersten Verluste bescherte. Wie in einem H�rspiel entfaltet sich die Szenerie vor dem geistigen Auge: "Legions invincible, launch the attack!", Schlachtrufe und -ger�usche - atmosph�risch wirklich ein Meisterwerk. "Sword Of Light" ist mein Favorit auf dem Album, der durch sehr emotionalen Gesang �berzeugt. Die hohen T�ne, die Deathmaster seiner Stimme entlockt zeigen, dass er gewaltig an sich gearbeitet hat. Den Refrain werdet ihr nicht so schnell aus dem Kopf bekommen. Der Text des Songs erz�hlt �ber die mystischen Schwerter wie Excalibur, die in vielen Sagen der Welt besungen werden. "Once Glorious" wird euch zu Tr�nen r�hren. In diesem Song tun Doomsword was sie am besten k�nnen. Schlie�t eure Augen, h�rt den Song mit Kopfh�rern und reist mit dem Protagonisten des Textes zur�ck in alte Zeiten, in denen ruhmreiche Schlachten geschlagen wurden. Es ist der l�ngste Track des Albums und kann eigentlich mit Worten nicht beschrieben werden, die Melodien klingen so sch�n tragisch, ein Song den nur Doomsword so schreiben k�nnen. In "Luni" singen Deathmaster und Vanni von Wotan �ber die Wikinger, die sich dem neuen Glauben des wei�en Gottes erwehren, Priester erschlagen und Kirchen niederbrennen. Ein Zusammenspiel von einem dramatischen Text, einem melancholischen Chorus und dem typischen Doomsword-Rhythmus. Ein Hymne auf die gro�en Schriftsteller epischer Fantasy-Literatur wie R.E. Howard und Michael Moorcock ist "Days Of High Adventure". Einer der schnelleren Tracks des Albums und am Text l�sst sich sofort die Band erkennen. Eine so sch�ne Textzeile wie "Weapons in our heart more than in our hands" w�rdet ihr wohl kaum in anderen Texten finden, in denen es um Conan geht, oder? "Steel Of My Axe"! Der sicher schnellste Doomsword-Song und bestimmt ein Favorit auf Live-Konzerten auf Augenh�he mit "Heathen Assault". Ein Song mit augenzwinkerndem, geilen Text und coolen Axtger�uschen. Macht einfach Spa�, die Faust zu ballen und zu singen. Jeder Song steht f�r sich und ist etwas besonderes. Daher hat sich das Warten auf das neue Album auch auf jeden Fall gelohnt. Es ist vielleicht nicht so episch geworden, wie der Vorg�nger, daher mag ich ihn pers�nlich vielleicht etwas mehr. Aber Doomsword haben sicher nie frischer und abwechslungsreicher geklungen. Doomsword ist und bleibt einfach eine Band, die einen absolut magischen Sound spielt, den leider nur eine handvoll Anh�nger verstehen werden. Wenn ihr Freunde des Epic Metals seid und euch fragt, ob ihr "My Name Will Live On" kaufen solltet, dann habt ihr mein Review einfach nicht genau genug gelesen. English Review Goosebumps! This is something a listener should get used to when he listens to the tunes of a new Doomsword album. The emotional, yet powerful traditional metal of these warriors has rarely disappointed. They started out with a self-titled debut album, highly acclaimed in the underground. It was heavily influenced by early US epic metal, but already showed the independent path Doomsword would be following in the future. The follow-up "Resound The Horn" marked a new era for Doomsword. Guitarist and songwriter Deathmaster took on the vocal duties and the band began to melt more melancholic doom elements into their sound. This is where my Doomsword story began, and this was a magic moment for me. You need to know, that I was listening mainly to Black and Death Metal at the time when "Resound the Horn" came out. I stumbled across the album in a local record-store and was so intrigued by the artwork and the titles of the songs, so I had to listen to it. I'd never heard about Doomsword or any other Epic Metal band at that time. I don't know what exactly happened on that day, but even though I did not buy the album, the sound, the melancholic atmosphere and the heavy doom laden songs together with the emotional and tragic voice struck a chord in my heart. Somehow I could not get this album out of my mind and I always came back to it. Maybe it sounds stupid, but somehow I felt it summoned me, like we were made for each other. I remember that I bought it, carried it home almost like a relic and listened to nothing else in the following weeks. From my story you will know, that I can never be completely objective when I review a Doomsword album, because the music of Doomsword made me cry so much tears, raise so many fists, bang my head so many times, dream so many dreams, travel so often to distant times and lands. "My Name Will Live On" is an album that was long awaited by fans all over the world. Deathmaster's move to Ireland and his study on new historical themes for the lyrics took some time for the album to take shape. Fresh blood joined the brotherhood, Sacred Heart replaces Guardian Angel II and Geilt joins in on bass guitar. I never understood why many reviewers did not realize the glory of "Let Battle Commence". For me it's the perfect epic metal album with a tragic atmosphere and great concept lyrics that even surpasses Bathory's works, it's source of inspiration. I knew it would be impossible to outdo this album, but Doomsword did the only thing, that was wise. They reviewed what they did on the debut album, broadened their sound and improved their musicianship. I have to say that there is not a single weak track on "My Name Will Live On". There are typical Doomsword tunes like "Death Of Ferdia", "Gergovia" or "Sword Of Light", massively epic tracks like "Luni", "Once Glorious" or "Thundercult" and some fast Power-Metal hammers like "Steel Of My Axe" and "Days Of High Adventure" that really kick ass. The strenght of the album lies in the variety of the tracks and Doomsword's ability to create tension. Often you will find an emotional vocal melody leading into a guitar solo and furious drumming, which will send shivers down your spine. If you like epic metal, you can't be more satisfied with moments like they are on "Thundercult" for example, the heartfelt vocal screams, then the choir sets in, the great guitar melody, the solo and then sounds of thunder, this is awesome! Manowar tried to create such monumental atmosphere with a shitload of keyboards. Doomsword achieve ten times the atmosphere with traditional metal instruments. "Gergovia" tells the tale of Vercingetorix who bravely stood up to the Roman oppression and Caesars armies. Like a radio-play you can imagine the scenery when you listen to this song: "Legions invincible, launch the attack!", hailing troops and battle sounds, it's a masterpiece! "Sword Of Light" is my favorite track on the album, it sounds deeply emotional and shows that Deathmaster has taken his voice to a new level. You won't get the chorus out of your mind. The song is about the mystic swords like Excalibur that all around the world legends have been told of. "Once Glorious" will drive you to tears. In this song Doomsword do what they do best, close your eyes and listen to the lyrics and music and you will travel back in time, where glory warriors fought with spirit like the song tells the story. It's the longest track and can't be described with words, it's so tragic and a song only Doomsword can do this way. In "Luni" you have Deathmaster and Vanni from Wotan sing about vikings fighting the new faith of the white god, with great lyrics, typical Doomsword rhythm and a melancholic chorus. "Days of High Adventure" is a hymn to the authors of great epic fiction stories like R.E. Howard or Michael Moorcock but you will notice that it is a Doomsword song. You won't have a line like "Weapons in our heart more than in our hands" in other songs about Conan, won't you? "Steel Of My Axe" is the fastest song from Doomsword and will be a fan's favorite on live concerts, next to "Heathen Assault". Every song stands out on it's own and the album was indeed worth the wait. It's not as epic as "Let Battle Commence" and maybe I like that one a bit better, but today the band sounds fresh as never before. Doomsword is one of those bands who deliver pure majesty which sadly will only be understood by a small crowd of followers. If you are a fan of Epic Metal and ask yourself if you should buy "My Name Will Live On" then you simply did not read my review closely enough.
